Long-term Care

We provide residential health care for adults requiring respite, rehabilitation or long-tern care. Programs and services are specially designed to meet the individual needs of each of our residents. Our goals are to foster dignity, independence and encourage both mental and physical abilities - while maintaining individual self-reliance.

DeMay Living Center residents are attended to by their own primary care physician. All physician services are overseen by the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital Medical Director.

Registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and certified nursing assistants provide for residents’ needs.

Social Workers work closely with our residents and their families to act as an advocate to provide crisis intervention as well as individual counseling.

A dietician also meets with residents and family, to tailor diets to meet individual needs, likes and dislikes, including ethnic tastes.

Dental care is also offered, or residents have the option of visiting their own dentist in the community.

A wide variety of recreational programs, both inside and outside the facility, are offered to meet resident interests including music, discussion groups, bowling, cooking, gardening, picnics, shopping trips, restaurant dining and camping. Physical rehabilitation therapy and occupational therapy, and/or speech-language pathology/audiology are available on site and can be prescribed by physicians as needed. Some of these services include gait training, strengthening, joint range of motion, therapeutic exercise, activities of daily living, splinting, language and swallowing evaluations.

Spiritual Care

Pastoral care is available to all residents 24-hours-a- day, regardless of religious affiliation. Our chaplain facilitates resident contact with the present or former parish whenever possible.

Weekly Bible study is available and all residents are welcome to attend. A weekly non-denominational worship service is led by local clergy.

Twice per month two services / Bible studies are conducted with the participants of the Adult Day Care program. The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper, (Communion) is observed monthly, and for Roman Catholic residents, weekly.
