The Women’s Center at Newark offers leading-edge care for women of all ages in a friendly, nurturing environment.

Our multidisciplinary team includes board-certified physicians, a midwife and a physician assistant who provide comprehensive routine obstetrical care, as well as routine and well-woman gynecological services. We also collaborate with a fellowship-trained obstetrician at Rochester General Hospital for high-risk pregnancies, antenatal testing, and obstetrical ultrasound.

Our Services

Insurance

We accept most insurance plans, although some require a referral when making an appointment. Referrals may be obtained from your primary care physician. Fees are on a sliding scale based on financial need. 

Our Providers

Dr. Ambalavanar SomaskandaAmbalavanar Somaskanda, MD

Dr. Ambalavanar Somaskanda joined Wayne Medical Group and established his obstetrics and gynecology practice in Sodus in 1980. He is a dedicated community member with a longstanding, thriving practice and also provides services to the Migrant Health Care system.

A board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist, he earned his medical degree from the University of Ceylon in Sri Lanka, completed his residency in obstetrics at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and served in the U.S. Navy. He is a member of American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and has been a member of the Clinical Associates at the University of Rochester since 1996.

Dr. Somaskanda lives in Webster with his wife, son and two daughters.
 


Jeffrey Gordon, MD

Dr. Jeffrey Gordon
Dr. Jeffrey Gordon joined the Rochester General Hospital faculty and served as medical director before pursuing his practice in Newark.

A board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist, Dr. Gordon earned his medical degree at Tel Aviv University’s Sackler School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Rutgers Medical School. He worked many years in private practice in the Adirondacks region before moving to Rochester to be medical director of Ob/Gyn at Lifetime Health, followed by a move to Rochester General. Special interests include laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, routine and adolescent gynecology, routine and high-risk obstetrics, family planning, and resident and medical school teaching. He is an assistant clinical professor at the University of Rochester and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Gordon enjoys reading, golf, travel, and spending time with his wife and family.


Dr. Neelam SharmaNeelam Sharma, MD

Dr. Neelam Sharma brings significant experience, surgical acumen and clinical skills to her Ob/Gyn practice.

After earning her medical degree and completing her residency at B.R.D. Medical College in India, Dr. Sharma worked for several years in that country in private practice before joining Rochester General Hospital for her second residency in Ob/Gyn. Special interests include routine and high-risk obstetrics, minimally invasive surgery such as Essure, robotic surgery, adolescent gynecology, and female incontinence evaluation and treatment.

Dr. Sharma is a Junior Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She enjoys reading and spending time with her husband and daughter.


Kay Hausman
Kathleen Hausman, CNM

Board certified by the American College of Nurse Midwifery and certified by the American Council of Nurse Midwives, Kathleen Hausman received her training at Stony Brook University. Her clinical interests are in adolescent and routine gynecology, obstetrics, family planning, and caring for women through the years as their needs change.

She enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with family.

 

 

Emily
DebadtsEmily Debadts, PA

Born and raised in Oswego County, Emily Debadts realized her interest in obstetrics and gynecology after completing two rotations with Dr. Ambalavanar Somaskanda, with whom she works at the Newark office.

Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, Ms. Debadts earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Daemen College before working for a short time in emergency medicine at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital. She transitioned to Ob/Gyn in 2006.

She enjoys being outdoors and lives with her husband and daughter in Williamson.
