Our Physicians

Maria-Elena Banghart, MD

Dr. Maria-Elena Banghart"Most of the time, the thrill of pediatrics comes from basic things, like teaching children and families healthy habits so that they can achieve fulfillment in all areas of their lives."

Interested in science at a young age, Dr. Banghart used to tag along with her father, a family practice physician, while on his rounds or in the laboratory analyzing specimens. She chose pediatrics after spending a year in the surgical department of a children’s hospital, caring for burn patients.

Dr. Banghart is board certified in pediatrics and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She completed her residency in Pediatrics at the University of Rochester in 1994 and since then has been with Genesee Pediatrics. Originally from Ecuador, Dr. Banghart graduated as a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Guayaquil, followed by an internship and postgraduate clinical training in Ecuador. She is a native speaker of Spanish and treats a diverse community of patients.

Besides spending time with her husband and three children, she enjoys sports (particularly swimming, biking and tennis), gardening, and long walks with her rambunctious Irish terrier.

Dr. Albert MangoldAlbert Mangold, MD

"I have always enjoyed children. Pediatrics tends to be what I call an upbeat specialty, and I love seeing families on a daily basis that 'I have grown up with' over the years."

Dr. Mangold decided to go into medicine as a senior in high school, after admiring the way doctors took care of his father, who died after a prolonged battle with cancer.

A pediatrician with the Genesee Pediatrics since 1976, he received his degree from Cornell Medical School and completed his residency in Pediatrics at the University of Rochester. Dr. Mangold is board certified in pediatrics and has served as president of the Rochester Pediatrics Society, where he is an active member.

He enjoys playing golf, visiting with friends – especially on golf outings – and spending time with his wife and children.

Dr. Margaret ColpoysMargaret Colpoys, MD

"I have fun every day with the children I see, and have the privilege of watching them grow into adults."

Dr. Colpoys has been a member of the Genesee Pediatrics since 2005. She received her medical degree from SUNY at Buffalo and completed her residency in Pediatrics at the University of Rochester.

Board certified in pediatrics, Dr. Colpoys enjoys the challenge of medicine, and has a special interest in the behavior and development of children, particularly the international health care of refugees.

Outside the office, she swims and spends time with her husband and four daughters.

Dr. Jacobs-PerkinsAndree Jacobs-Perkins, MD

"The joy of having my own children during medical school and residency made pediatrics a natural choice for me."

Dr. Jacobs-Perkins found her passion for medicine as a high school student, while volunteering at a hospital and school for disabled children. Now, with a sepcial interest in refugees and children in foster care, she cherishes the opportunity to communicate with – and learn from – children and families from many cultures.

Board certified in pediatrics, Dr. Jacobs-Perkins joined Genesee Pediatrics in 2000, after an affiliation with Foster Care Pediatrics for the Department of Health. She received her medical degree from the University of Rochester, where she completed her residency in Pediatrics, and has been honored with the Robert J. Haggerty Prize in Pediatrics.

In her spare time, she enjoys watching her childrens’ violin and cello skills mature, hiking with her family and dog, cooking, gardening, and reading novels and biographies.

Stephen R. Webb, MD

Dr. Stephen Webb

"Pediatrics is just as interesting, challenging and rewarding now as when I came to Genesee in 1974."

Dr. Webb has spent all but the first five years of his career as a pediatrician at Genesee Pediatrics. Good medical care for children improves physical and emotional well-being for a lifetime, and Dr. Webb is proud to offer it every day both at this practice and in the Rochester General School-Based Health Centers, where he serves as medical director.

Board certified in pediatrics, Dr. Webb is a graduate of the Yale University School of Medicine. He was a resident at Yale-New Haven Hospital and a fellow in Community Pediatrics at the University of Rochester. He enjoys being able to translate advances in diverse areas, such as disease prevention, asthma care, and child mental health services, into positive results.

In his spare time, Dr. Webb enjoys backpacking, kayaking, and cross-country skiing.

Dr. David KotokDavid Kotok, MD

"Having been a physician over 40 years and in this practice over 37 years, the relationships with generations of families have been very rewarding. This is especially true when seeing the grandchildren of my former pediatric patients."

Dr. Kotok received his early training in the sciences as a chemistry major in college, and a summer job as a camp counselor proved he enjoyed working with children. The field of medicine seemed a natural place to meld both interests.

Board certified in pediatrics, Dr. Kotok has been with Genesee Pediatrics since its inception. He earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester, where he also completed his residency in Pediatrics.

Excited to be a new grandfather, Dr. Kotok enjoys photography, cross-country skiing, hiking, reading and social dancing.

Richard Lawrence, MD

Dr. Richard Lawrence"After years of being a pediatrician, I am still excited working with new parents, watching kids turning into functional adults, laughing at how young kids describe things."

Dr. Lawrence has been with the Genesee Pediatrics since 1980. He received his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine and completed his residency in Pediatrics and Gastroenterology Fellowship at the University of Rochester.

Dr. Lawrence is board certified in pediatrics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has a special interest in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition.

In his spare time, he prefers to stay active with hobbies that include woodworking and other do-it-yourself projects, road biking, wilderness camping, and visiting new places. He has gone whitewater canoeing in Belize, rafting in Costa Rica, snorkeling in Hawaii, and touring in the Galapagos.
