2012 Summer Student Volunteer Program Overview Presentation

 Within the structure of a short, three-week volunteer session, students do worthwhile work that truly makes a difference in the overall care of people from the local area and do so in a variety of roles and capacities.

 What are the Requirements?

  • 14 years of age or older and completed the 8th grade by the start of the summer program
  • Minimum 82% ("B") GPA/grade level with supporting documentation from your school counselor/Registrar
  • Application, including a brief essay explaining why you would like to volunteer with RGHS
  • Signed Parental / Guardian Consent Agreement & Contract (for those under 18 years of age)
  • Two School Employee References (Guidance Counselor, Teachers, Coaches, etc.)
  • Health screening, including immunization records

 When Do Summer Student Volunteers Work?

Three, 3-week Summer Student Volunteer Sessions will be offered:

  • Session #1:   June 25th - July 13th   (Application deadline of May 4th)
  • Session #2:   July 16th - August 3rd  (Application deadline of June 1st)
  • Session #3:   August 6th - August 24th  (Application deadline of July 2nd)

Students volunteer Monday-Friday for three weeks from 8:00 am - Noon, Noon - 4:00 pm, or another 3-4 hour shift (since some hours may vary by department) for a total of sixty (60) volunteer hours. Students may apply for more than one volunteer session

  • Patient Discharge and Transport
  • Food Services and Menu Delivery
  • Clerical and Office Assistant Roles / Tasks
  • Lab Clerical Positions

Step 1: Apply for the Summer Student Volunteer Program

 

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS 

Part 1: High School Student Online Portion

COLLEGE STUDENTS

Step 2: Interview

An interview is scheduled with you once your application is complete (including all items described above) and submitted to the Volunteer Office. (Note: An interview does not guarantee placement in the volunteer program.)

Step 3: Health Review and Screening

If you are accepted into the Summer Student Volunteer Program, you will be required to have a Health Review and Screening that includes documentation of immunization records and two (2) tuberculosis skin tests.

Step 4: Criminal Background & Reference Check

All employees, staff and volunteers at Rochester General Health System,16 years of age and older, are required to have a criminal background and reference check.

Step 5: Mandatory, General Orientation and Training Session

The week before the Monday start-date of your scheduled summer session, you will be required to attend a mandatory, general orientation and training session to prepare you for your time as a volunteer at Rochester General Health System.

Step 6: Picture for ID Badge and Deposit Volunteer Uniform

At your general orientation and training session, the Thursday before the Monday start-date of your scheduled summer session, you will have your photo taken for your ID badge and will receive your volunteer uniform.

Application Deadlines 

  • Session #1: June 25th - July 13th -  Deadline is May 4th

Mandatory General Orientation Sessions 

Attendance for the entire General Orientation and Training session is required.

  • Session #1: Friday, June 22nd, 9:30 am - 4:30 pm
  • Session #2: Thursday, July 12th, 9:30 am - 4:30 pm
  • Session #3: Thursday, August 2nd, 9:30 am - 4:30 pm
