Volunteering

Volunteers play a vital role in the services we provide throughout Rochester General Hospital. In addition to providing services that bring comfort to our patients and their families, many volunteers provide specialized, technical expertise on important Hospital projects. Whether they're working directly with patients, or working behind the scenes, our volunteers enjoy the opportunities to meet new people, to keep active while providing important services, and to experience the personal satisfaction that comes from helping others.
Many couples enjoy volunteering together at Rochester General Hospital. Husbands and wives, mothers and sons, and grandmothers and granddaughters spend time together while helping others at the Hospital. If you and a special person in your life would be interested in volunteering together, please contact us.
Brighten Someone’s Day
“What I feel most rewarded about is the feedback I get from people. I can feel that they appreciate it and it makes me feel good, just the fact that they appreciate what I’m doing.” (Jack Mahoney)
Volunteers serve in nearly every area of Rochester General Hospital. They are Family Liaisons in the Surgery and Emergency Departments, Surgical, Cardiothoracic and Medical Intensive Care Units. They also work in Archives, Medical Library, Pastoral Care, Patient Discharge, Visitor Services, Cancer Center and the Information Desk. Volunteers are also in the Therapeutic Humor Program and Health Insurance Information Counseling Assistance Program (HIICAP).
Put Your Talents to Work
“I wanted something where I was moving around, and meeting people and having a lot of contact with people , so I chose discharge, and I’m glad I did.” (Jack Mahoney)
Volunteers help provide specialized services. Some volunteers graciously lend skills and experience acquired in their careers to important projects for Rochester General Hospital. No matter what your expertise, chances are we have volunteer opportunities to match your talents and skills.
We’ll Fit Your Schedule
“I love everything about the volunteering that I do. I like having a scheduled day to come in, I like the time that I spend here, I met wonderful people, made some really great friends, and I like the fact that I can give a little of myself back to something in the community." (Kay Davis)
With the many volunteer opportunities available, it's easy to find one that fits your schedule. You can volunteer during the day, in the evening, or on weekends. You can choose a volunteer position with a set schedule, usually a few hours per week. We never forget that your time is valuable and we work to make volunteering fit your busy schedule.
