Pediatric Urology

Urology is the branch of medicine concerned with the urinary tract in both genders, and with the genital tract or reproductive system in the male. Urogenital is a word that refers to the urinary and genital organs.

Children are not just small adults. They cannot always say what is bothering them. They cannot always answer medical questions, and are not always able to be patient and cooperative during a medical examination. Pediatric urologists know how to examine and treat children in a way that makes them relaxed and cooperative. In addition, pediatric urologists often use equipment specially designed for children. Most pediatric urologists' offices are arranged and decorated with children in mind. This includes the examination rooms and waiting rooms, which have toys, videos and reading materials for children. This helps create a comfortable and non-threatening environment for your child.

The division of Pediatric Urology provides a full range of diagnostic and urologic treatment services for children. Urology services for children include penile and genital reconstruction and surgery of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, penis, and testes. We treat congenital and acquired problems of the genital and urinary tracts in children - the most common conditions are penile deformities (hypospadias, chordee, phimosis), undescended testis, hernia, hydrocele, urinary tract infections, vesico-ureteral reflux, hydronephrosis, urinary obstruction, and tumors of the urinary and genital tracts in infants and children
