Laser Surgery Facts
- The RGH Laser Training Courses have run continuously since 1981 and represent the oldest course of its kind.
- Over 2000 physicians from the United States and around the world have been trained at the Laser Center.
- In addition to the United States and Canada, students of laser courses have come from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, Egypt, England, India, Ireland, Israel, Pakistan, and New Zealand.
- Laser Center educational programs have included special programs for elementary and middle schoolers, high school students, undergraduate medical students, nurses and allied health professionals, in addition to physicians.
- The Laser Center has an arsenal of 24 laser systems in use.
- More than 100 members of the RGH staff have laser privileges and perform over 1200 procedures annually.
- The Center has received more than $750,000 in scientific grants for laser related topics.
- The Center has received $2,000,000 in equipment grants.
- The Laser Center is a regional referral center for the treatment of complex surgical problems as a result of the depth and breadth of its expertise.
- Laser Group members have published more than 75 scientific papers, 15 chapters, 75 editorials, 100 abstracts, and 12 video productions and have made over 225 presentations at national and international scientific meetings on laser-related topics.
- Laser Group members serve as editors, editorial board members and referees for the following Journals: Lasers In Surgery and Medicine, Journal of Clinical Laser Medicine and Surgery, Lasers In Medical Science, Journal of Biomedical Optics, and other surgical specialty journals.
- The Laser Center provides equipment loans and collaborative expertise for undergraduate and graduate student projects at the UR Laboratory for Laser Energetics, Alfred University and SUNY Buffalo, in addition to collaborative work with several local optical and laser-related companies.
