Under the leadership of Theodor Mayer, MD, PhD, the Rochester General Hospital Department Pathology and Laboratory Medicine’s mission is to provide the highest quality diagnostic laboratory testing available.

We are dedicated to providing state-of-the-art, cost effective laboratory testing in a timely manner for our patients and practitioners. Our testing schedules are designed to respond to specific patient care needs. We offer the expertise of our directors and staff for consultative, research and educational activities.

Rochester General Health System Laboratory serves as a reference laboratory for other area hospitals, health centers, HMO’s, physician offices, nursing homes, and drug rehabilitation centers. Our services are also available to pharmaceutical companies, educational institutions, and industries.

We also serve as a teaching laboratory for a baccalaureate level School of Phlebotomy Technicians. It is also a clinical teaching site for the SUNY College of Health Related Professions Cytotechnology Program.
