What Happens In The Emergency Room

An Emergency Room doctor will examine you initially. You may then be seen by a Vascular Neurologist (a doctor who specializes in the care of patients with strokes).

If you arrive in the Emergency Room within three hours of the time your stroke started you may be eligible to receive a special medication that might be able to break up the blood clot in the blood vessel going to your brain.

In the case of a hemorrhagic stroke you may be seen by a neurosurgeon (a doctor who specializes in operating on the brain) to see if surgery to remove the blood would help you recover better.
