What Happens After You Are Admitted To The Hospital

 

You will be admitted to the Stroke Care Unit where specially prepared Registered Nurses will take care of you. They work with your Primary Care Physician, the Nurse Practitioner or the Medical Resident to meet your needs.

Patient care is directed by Clinical Pathways designed to ensure that the patients’ needs are met in a timely manner. These pathways are based on the results of clinical trials.

You will have diagnostic testing at this time

You will be seen by physical, occupational and speech therapy as needed within 24 hours of your admission. Studies have shown that receiving therapy early in the course of a stroke increases the chances for recovery.

Physical Therapy will assist you with walking.

Occupational Therapy will work with you in the activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, etc.)

Speech Therapy may work with you for swallowing problems or difficulty with speaking.

The nutritionist will assist with your dietary needs.
