Faculty

Rochester General Hospital and the University of Rochester Department of Neurology collaborate to provide neurological services at Rochester General Hospital. Faculty of the department of neurology provide inpatient and expanding outpatient services, adding to those currently being provided by the community private neurology practices. Members of the Faculty Practice are fully integrated with the University of Rochester Department of Neurology, sharing the academic, educational and clinical missions.

All faculty have subspecialty or educational affiliations with U of R-based subspecialty divisions, enabling a free flow of academic interests, practice parameters, and educational standards. This helps provide outstanding care to patients with acute and chronic neurological disease; teaching programs for medical students, for residents in Neurology, Internal Medicine and other specialties and neurology fellows; and patient access to cutting edge clinical trials and extramurally-funded translational research programs.

Faculty practice group members include:

Dr. Richard L Barbano came to Rochester in 1993 to join the faculty at the UR after training at Columbia-Presbyterian in NYC. He is currently Associate Professor in the Movement Disorders division and is Director of the Botulinum Toxin and Dystonia Clinic. He is starting as Chief of the division at Rochester General Hospital and will be initiating a Movement Disorders clinic.

Dr. W. Scott Burgin completed a 2 year cerebrovascular fellowship in Houston, TX prior to returning to the Stroke Program faculty at UR in 2001. He currently directs the ACGME accredited Vascular Neurology Fellowship Program as well as the Neurovascular lab at SMH. He is will be the Director of Stroke services at Rochester General Hospital as well as direct the Ultrasound lab.

Dr. Jebin Chacko completed his fellowship in Clinical Electrophysiology at the UR. He currently helps staff the Peripheral Neuropathy clinic at SMH and at Rochester General Hospital has been providing electrodiagnostic EMG and EEG services. He is seeing general neurology patients with a growing interest in peripheral nerve disorders.

She provides comprehensive clinical care for patients with movement disorders including Parkinson disease, dystonia, and essential tremor, as well as for patients with atypical dementias (particularly those with combined cognitive and motor impairments). Her research efforts at the University of Rochester Medical Center focus on understanding the brain circuits that mediate the control of movement and behavior, and translating this knowledge into developing improved treatments for movement disorders.

Dr. Amy Chen joined the UR faculty in 2009, upon completion of a 2-year fellowship in neuromuscular diseases/ALS and clinical neurophysiology at Columbia University. She sees both general neurology and neuromuscular patients at Rochester General Hospital. She also attends the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) clinic at Strong Memorial Hospital.
