Emergency Department

 

Rochester General Hospital's Emergency Department is available 24 hours a day for transfers of emergent cases and traumas.

Our transfer line, (585) 922-7333, is staffed day and night to ensure accessibility and ease of transfer.

Level II Emergency Department

  • We are a designated Level II Emergency Department that provides emergency services for critically ill and injured patients from throughout Greater Rochester and surrounding counties.

  • The Department has grown dramatically during the last five years.

  • The Emergency Department is staffed by 22 specialty-specific attending physicians who provide 24-hour coverage for acute adult and pediatric medical and surgical areas.

Surgical Services

  • General Surgery -- major trauma, general surgery requiring intensive care, special general surgical complications and pediatric surgery

  • Urology -- complicated cases requiring intensive pediatric urology

  • Plastic -- cosmetic, reconstructive and hand specialty cases

  • Vascular -- emergency and general vascular

  • Cardiothoracic, neurosurgery and other areas

Medical Services

  • Management of chest pain

  • Management of acute stroke and acute neurological cases

  • Thrombolytic Therapy

  • Urgent Angioplasty

Pediatric Services

  • Separate Pediatric ER facility
  • Complete medical, surgical and psychiatric services

  • Extensive pediatric consultation in infectious diseases, behavioral pediatrics, adolescent medicine, neonatology and lead poisoning

Psychiatric Services

  • Acute psychosis

  • Suicidal patients

Radiology Services

  • 24-hour invasive procedures

  • 24-hour CT and MRI services

Ob/Gyn Emergency Care

QuickCare Program

  • Cares for children with low acuity problems within an hour of arrival

  • Staffed by pediatric nurse practitioners

Aeromedical Transport

  • A lighted helicopter landing pad 100 feet from the Emergency Department door

Active participation in clinical research trials

  • Stroke Treatment/Ancrod Trial

  • Heart Attack/Integrelin Trial

  • Gusto III Study (r-PA vs. t-PA)

  • Plasminogen-activator Angioplasty Compatibility Trial

Specialists and subspecialists on-call 24 hours a day
