An Exciting Evolution in Patient Care
As part of Rochester General Hospital's ongoing mission to provide the highest quality patient care and to best serve the Rochester community, we're proud to announce the new B. Thomas Golisano Pavilion and Emergency Center opened on October 7, 2009.
Built from the ground up to take full advantage of the latest innovations in emergency and cardiothoracic medicine, this 88,000+ square-foot facility nearly doubles the space devoted to these areas. While significantly larger, this impressive space is also designed to bring patients, medical personnel, and vital resources closer together - proximilty that will both enhance and streamline patient care and safety.
Our new facility also delivers a higher level of integration among several specialty areas, including the:

New Emergency Department
Emergency Medicine
The central and largest area of our new Emergency Department (ED) is dedicated to maximize patient care, reduce distances medical personnel need to travel, and shorten ED stays. Other benefits include:
- All patients are in close proximity to medical personnel, who can see them from one of two central workstations
- Offers additional and enhanced technology including a dedicated CT scanner and X-ray, as well as portable devices designed to eliminate uncertainty and enhance efficiency
- High-quality pediatric care in our Pediatric Emergency Department
- Contains a discrete Crisis Intervention Unit for patients in need of psychiatric care
The Przysinda Family Foundation Cardiac Catheterization Suite
Located on the upper floor of the new B. Thomas Golisano Pavilion directly above the ED, our new, state-of-the-art Catheterization and Electrophysiology Labs are designed to deliver the highest levels of quality care - safely and efficiently. The suite includes:
- Six state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology labs
- A dedicated patient-only elevator from the ED for rapid transportation of patients with serious cardiac events
- 26-bed pre- and post-procedure area with increased privacy, space, and amenities
- Double the capacity for electrophysiology procedures to support the growing demand for cardiac ablative and device therapies
The upper level of the B. Thomas Golisano Pavilion also house RGH's all-new Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU). Directly adjacent to our new Catheterization and Electrophysiology Labs and above the ED, the CTICU offers a more pleasant and accessible environment for patients, as well as more space and technology for medical personnel. The CTICU also includes:
- A new and fully state-of-the-art 12-bed intensive care unit
- More spacious rooms to improve the patient's recovery and better accommodate family and visitors
- Wi-Fi Internet access in new waiting area designed to ensure comfort and convenience for visitors
- New, leading-edge patient-monitoring system to best manage patients and improve outcomes
Our new Fast Track area was designed to expedite the diagnosis and treatment of minor illnesses and injuries, with a goal of 90 minutes from registration to completion of care.
- Features Fast Track-dedicated teams of medical personnel
- Unlike urgent care centers, Fast Track has access to the full resources of RGH, including diagnostic equipment and specialty consults
The new Trauma & Resuscitation Suite is designed to treat critical injuries such as those sustained in severe car crashes or from gunshots.
- Accomodates up to four patients at one time
- Located just 25 steps from a dedicated ambulance entrance for rapid evaluation and stabilization
- Utilizes technological advancements in diagnostics and monitoring equipment
- Features direct proximity to emergency ultrasound and X-ray resources
