General Description
Rochester General's comprehensive dialysis services include inpatient, outpatient and at-home therapy supported by a staff of board certified nephrologists, registered nurses, technicians, social workers, dietitians and administrative personnel all focused on the patient's care and comfort.
Services are available for patients 18 and over, who suffer from kidney failure. Compassionate care is delivered with an emphasis on maximizing patient rehabilitation and independence.
Inpatient Services
Inpatient dialysis is located at Rochester General Hospital. A six-station inpatient unit provides dialysis treatment for patients admitted to Rochester General Hospital. Portable equipment is also available to provide bedside care for patients in the intensive care units and others who are unable to be transported to the inpatient dialysis unit.
Outpatient Services
A 48-station outpatient facility for full–care hemodialysis patients is located three miles from Rochester General Hospital. Care is supported by clinical, social work and nutrition experts who specialize in the care of dialysis patients. This state-of-the-art facility provides convenient parking with surface level entry, and a comfortable, spacious treatment area with individual televisions for patients.
Peritoneal Dialysis is available at this site. Patients are educated to enable them to perform dialysis therapy in their home using Baxter products.

Our Physicians
Paul Bernstein, MD
Dr. Bernstein is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He completed his fellowship in Nephrology at Yale University School of Medicine. His interests include treatment of hypertension and kidney disease in pregnant women, as well as management patients with chronic kidney disease. Dr. Bernstein is the Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Rochester General Hospital.
Jonathan Bress, MD
Dr. Bress is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He completed his fellowship in Nephrology at the University of Pennsylvania, where he won the Renal Fellow Teaching Award. Dr. Bress was in private practice in the Philadelphia area for three years before joining Rochester General Hospital Medical Group. His interests include teaching and hypertension.
Sree Chennupati, MD
Dr. Chennupati is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. She completed her fellowship in Nephrology at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Her interests include the use of evidence-based research in the treatment of patients with chronic kidney disease, problems relating to the control of potassium in the blood, and as management of the patient with chronic kidney disease.
Marvin Grieff, MD
Dr. Grieff is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He completed his fellowship in Nephrology at McGill University. His special interests include prevention of recurrent urinary tract stones, disorders of calcium metabolism, and management of patients with chronic kidney disease. Dr. Grieff is on the Medical Advisory Board of the National Kidney Foundation of Upstate New York. He is fluent in both English and French.
John K. Hix, MD
Dr. Hix is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He completed his fellowship in Nephrology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. His special interests include determining the underlying cause of hypertension to define treatment, as well as management of patients with chronic kidney disease.
Robert Mayo, MD
Dr. Mayo is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He completed his fellowship in Nephrology at the University of Michigan Medical Center. His interests include dialysis access, as well as management of patients with chronic kidney disease. Dr. Mayo is President and Senior Leader Patient Safety Officer of the Rochester General Hospital Medical & Dental Staff. In 2005, he received the Rochester General Hospital Father George Norton Physician Excellence Award, which honors physicians who dramatically touch the lives of patients and the community.
Stephen Silver, MD
Dr. Silver is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He completed his fellowship in Nephrology at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. His interests include management of patients with chronic kidney disease. A recognized authority on fluid and electrolyte disorders, Dr. Silver is on the Medical Advisory Board of the National Kidney Foundation of Upstate New York.
Maria Rojas, MD
Dr. Rojas completed her fellowship in Nephrology at the University of Florida at Gainesville. Her internal medicine training was at Caritas Saint Elizabeth’s Medical Center, which is a teaching hospital of Tufts University. Prior to her medical training, she received her Master of Public Health degree; her interest was care of the medically underserved population in Colombia. Her current interests in Nephrology include chronic kidney disease, acute renal failure, and hypertension. She is fluent in English and Spanish.
