Auxiliary Recognized by HANYS and Governor

Newark-Wayne Community Hospital and DeMay Living Center (NWCH/DLC) Auxilians and Volunteers were honored for their contributions to Newark-Wayne Community Hospital and DeMay Living Center during 2009 at a dinner on Wednesday, April 21st at Elks Lodge 1249 in Newark. The evening’s theme, “Volunteers Are a Ray of Sunshine!” included fun decorations using bright and cheery sunflowers and gerbera daisies.

Exalted Ruler John Oakes welcomed over 100 Auxilians, volunteers, and guests to a delicious pork dinner that was prepared by Elks Club members. Reverend Carlos Smith, Chaplain for VOW, gave the invocation and benediction. Annette Leahy, President of NWCH/DLC expressed her gratitude to the volunteers and Auxilians for their enormous contribution of hours of service to the Hospital and DeMay Living Center. “High Hopes” Barbershop Quartet provided a fun selection of songs for all to enjoy.

Mary Palmer, President of the Hospital Auxiliary, reviewed the accomplishments of 2009 and spoke of the many ways that the Auxiliary supported the Hospital’s and DeMay Living Center’s mission and goals over the last year. The Auxiliary was also recently recognized by the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) and Governor David Patterson for their enormous commitment to the people in Wayne and the surrounding counties through their efforts at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital and DeMay Living Center for the last 53 years.

Marie Burnham, Volunteer Coordinator for NWCH/DLC, presented Milestone Hours of Service awards. Evelyn Hayslett from Newark achieved the highest milestone in 2009 by reaching the mark for 7,000 hours of service donated followed by Bob Angell, who donated 6,000 hours.
