Rochester General Hospital Celebrates More Than a Century of Social Work Services

2010 Service Awards Announced

Rochester General Hospital is proudly celebrating its 101st anniversary of providing Social Work Services in the Rochester community.

Social Work has been an integral part of the patient experience for a majority of the years that Rochester General (which originally opened in 1864 as Rochester City Hospital) has been in existence.

Every year during National Professional Social Work Month, two Rochester General Hospital employees are recognized for their commitment to patient care. Cari Spade, LMSW, who lives in Brockport, has received the 2010 Social Work Excellence award for extraordinary patient advocacy and “displaying an outstanding degree of empathy, warmth, understanding and respect (for patients).”

Cari Spade“Cari Spade is an experienced medical social worker who works with a positive attitude and a sense of team focus that makes very challenging work equally as rewarding each day,” said Mary Jane Stone, Manager of Social Work Services at Rochester General Hospital. “Cari is constantly looking for ways to improve our services and her skills.”

Also recognized for extraordinary patient care was Brandi Heel RN who received the 2010 Ella Hollister award. Brandi is the 27th recipient of this prestigious honor. Brandi is a resident of Livonia.

Brandi is without question, first and foremost a patient advocate,” said Joan Beauchamp RN/Nurse Manager. “She is continually seeking opportunities to gain knowledge so that she can better care for her patients.  She takes the time to recognize what is truly important to the patient and family and makes sure that all involved in the care are focused on that. Brandi's peers, her patients and their families repeatedly recognize Brandi for her compassion and her continual effort to advocate for her patients.”
