Cardiac Care at Rochester General Hospital Receives National Recognition

The Rochester Heart Institute at Rochester General Hospital has been named as a Great Cardiovascular Program by Becker’s Hospital Review, a source of business and legal information for hospital and health system leaders.

Becker’s Hospital Review awarded the distinction to only 25 US health systems. Accompanying Rochester General Hospital on the list of Great Cardiovascular Programs were The Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins Hospital and The Cleveland Clinic. Rochester General Hospital is a Cleveland Clinic Heart Surgery Center, providing Rochester General access to leading edge research and protocols from the nation’s number one heart program.

Rochester General Hospital (Rochester, N.Y.). As the fourth largest cardiac center in the state of New York, Rochester General Hospital performs more than 1,100 cardiothoracic surgeries and 7,600 invasive coronary interventions every year. The new facility, opened in 2009, offers state-of-the-art technology with four cardiac catheterization procedure rooms, two electrophysiology labs and a 12-bed cardiothoracic intensive care unit. The hospital also features patient education and cardiac rehabilitation centers. The Rochester Heart Institute received 2010 Specialty Excellence Awards from HealthGrades in cardiac care, cardiac surgery and coronary intervention.

In addition, Rochester General Hospital has been named nine times as a TOP 100 Heart Hospital by Thomson Reuters. Rochester General Hospital is the only hospital in Western New York to receive this honor.
