Rochester General Hospital's Cardiac Surgery Program Honored For Excellence
June 7, 2010
The Rochester Heart Institute (RHI) at Rochester General Hospital is proud to announce that it has received a prestigious designation from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS).
The STS has awarded Rochester General Hospital its THREE STAR rating for the highest level of cardiac surgical quality. Only 12% of the almost 1,000 cardiac surgical programs in the database have achieved this elite level of quality and patient outcome.
In its letter to Rochester General Hospital, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons explained that “in the current analysis of national data covering the period from January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2009, the cardiac surgery performance of Rochester General Hospital was found to lie in the highest quality tier, thereby receiving an STS THREE STAR rating.”
“We work tirelessly to ensure that we provide the highest quality care to our patients,” said Ronald L. Kirshner MD, Chief of Cardiac Services and Cardiothoracic Surgery at Rochester General. “This STS designation is evidence that our commitment to process improvement and excellence is serving our patients well.”
In addition to the STS designation, Rochester General Hospital’s cardiology program is the only Thomson/Solucient Top 100 Heart Hospital in the region and has received that recognition 9 times. Hospitals that receive this distinction have been proven to set the highest standards for heart and cardiac care.
