Hundreds of Children Received FREE Bike Helmets, Twister Games & Much More at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital's Annual Spring Fest
Several hundred children received free bike helmets and were also eligible to win one of eight bicycles due to the generosity of the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital Auxiliary and staff, the Lincoln and Newark Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) other community partners at the 4th annual community event, "Spring Fest: Get Healthy. Be Well" this past Saturday, June 6th. The event, sponsored by Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, DeMay Living Center and the Hospital’s Auxiliary, is held in tents on the grounds of the hospital. Other sponsors included: the Newark Police Department, Wayne County Public Health, Newark Wegmans, Newark Kiwanis, WACK Radio, Heluva Good Cheese, Premier Martial Arts, Reliant Credit Union and Lyons National Bank.
“We are so thankful to the Auxiliary, to the Lincoln and Perkins’ Parent Teacher Associations for the donations of the bike helmets and bike accessories,” said Tonya Taylor, Executive Director of the Foundation and Director of Community Services for Newark-Wayne Community Hospital and DeMay Living Center. “These gifts made the event especially meaningful to families who visited the health fair. We are also grateful to the many community partners who participated. Our purpose in sponsoring the event is to provide a safe, fun-filled day to give back to our communities. We also want to promote healthy lifestyle practices for all ages. I think it was a success on all levels and look forward to another successful event next year.”
Other activities included: a bike safety rodeo; a car seat safety check; free glucose and blood pressure screenings; visits from emergency medical service providers including Mercy Flight Central; educational booths by Hospital departments and Wayne County organizations; fun music; free refreshments; and much more.
