Mark Clement, President and CEO of Rochester General Hospital, announced today that John Riedman, Chairman of the Riedman Foundation and Riedman Corporation, has made a major gift of $500,000 to Rochester General Hospital.
“On behalf of the entire Rochester General family, I want to express my sincere thanks to John Riedman for this most generous gift. His donation will help us make significant facility building improvements and infrastructure enhancements that will benefit the thousands of patients in our community who turn to RGH for their medical care every year. We are grateful to John for his trust in our hospital to carry out our mission to the community and for the steadfast and dedicated service and counsel that he has provided to our system and to RGH as a friend and Trustee.”
“I am pleased to be able to make this gift to Rochester General Hospital,“ said Riedman. “As a long-time Rochester resident and businessman, I recognize how vital it is for a community to have accessible, high quality medical care. In my years of association with Rochester General, the hospital has demonstrated an exceptional dedication to excellence, and a foresight and keen vision for meeting the region’s future healthcare needs with the highest quality care and services. I am pleased to help them advance that endeavor.”
Riedman has served as a Trustee of Rochester General Health System and its predecessor, ViaHealth for many years. He also is past chair of the Finance Committee and current chair of the Audit and Compliance Committee. He previously served as a Trustee for Genesee Hospital, for which he also chaired the Finance and Building Committees.
Riedman has a long history of service and commitment to the Rochester region, helping to make it a better place in which to live and work. Through his Foundation and his personal service, Riedman has touched the lives of many in the region and has been honored for his dedication and service by numerous organizations. Programs he has funded include the Riedman Summer Technology Camp at MCC, the Powder Mills Fish Hatchery, and major expansions of the Rochester Museum & Science Center and Seneca Park Zoo. He has been a strong voice for small business and health reform and helped drive the enhancement of critical regional infrastructure and services, including the NY State Thruway, and the Greater Rochester International Airport.
Riedman is Chairman of the Riedman Corporation, an investment and real estate firm, which formerly operated the ninth largest privately held insurance brokerage in the United States. He also serves as a director of Brown & Brown, Inc. For 15 years, Riedman served on the Board of Directors and as chairman of the Audit Committee for Fleet Financial Group and its predecessors.
Rochester General’s facility enhancement plans encompass a new six-story patient tower with 144 family-centered private rooms and a state-of-the-art Ambulatory Services Pavilion. The patient tower is the largest construction project in the hospital’s history and follows several significant revitalization projects already completed including the Carter Street Garage, Eugene Polisseni Pavilion, Lipson Cancer Center satellite in Linden Oaks, and the Riggs Endovascular Operating Suite. The new, expanded state-of-the-art B. Thomas Golisano Pavilion and Emergency Center, which will serve the Hospital’s more than 90,000 ED visits a year, is in its final stages of completion and due to open later this year.
In addition to these facility improvements, Rochester General is making ongoing investments in technology and clinical programs to build and maintain a world-class medical and dental staff.
