DeMay Living Center Residents "Go Green" with 1st Recycling Program for LTC Facilities in Wayne County
(11/10/09)
Members of the DeMay Living Center Resident Council recently decided to undertake a recycling program utilizing the ‘blue’ boxes used in residences throughout Wayne County. Members of the council felt that it was an important initiative, worthy of the extra sorting, collecting and all that goes along with recycling. The blue boxes are located throughout DeMay Living Center and the program is now underway.
“I always recycled before I came to DeMay to live,” said resident, Tom Burm. “This was important to many of the residents. We wanted to do our part.”
“We contacted the recycling center and they were more than happy to come over and tell the residents all about the County’s recycling program and how recycling impacts valuable natural resources,” said Elise Gaylord, a Therapeutic Recreation Team Member who assisted the residents with getting the program up and running.
“The DeMay resident’s program is the first at a living center in Wayne County,” said Marjorie Torelli from Western Finger Lakes Solid Waste Management Authority, the public authority responsible for Wayne County’s recycling program. “This (recycling) is very important for reusing valuable resources and for our children’s future.”
