Newark-Wayne Community Hospital Hosts St. Paddy's Day Event to Raise Awareness of Colorectal Cancer

Dr. Mohammed AlsalahiAs part of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, the Rochester General Medical Group Gastroenterology team, based at Newark-Wayne and led by Dr. Mohammed Alsalahi, will host a free educational seminar designed to provide information on colorectal cancer risk factors and screening options. The event will be held Thursday, March 17, from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at Newark Wayne Community Hospital.

Colorectal cancer. strikes more than 140,000 women and men each year, and claims more than 60,000 lives, making it the second deadliest cancer in the U.S. However, it is a disease that is preventable and curable when detected and treated early. Unfortunately, colorectal cancer often is a silent disease, beginning with no symptoms at all. Come learn about your risk factors for developing colorectal cancer and the tests available for preventing and detecting it.

  • Colorectal cancer is the second leading cancer killer in the United States?
     
  • Your risk may be higher than average if you or a close relative have had colorectal polyps, colorectal cancer or inflammatory bowel disease?

For adults age 50-64 years old, who do not have medical insurance, this test will be absolutely free of charge.
