Newark-Wayne Community Hospital Quality Scores Better Than U.S. and State Average - Many at 100%

According to the latest scores in the government-sponsored "Hospital Compare" website, Newark-Wayne Community Hospital is among the top hospitals in the Finger Lakes Region in ratings for treatment of heart attack, pneumonia, heart failure and surgical care. Newark-Wayneメs ratings are higher than both the national and state averages in all cases except one indicator in regard to flu vaccines.

"Hospitals that can achieve and maintain higher scores are proving that the latest and best care processes are being used," said Arun Nagpaul, M.D., the Hospital's Medical Director. "At Newark-Wayne we are employing 'Best Practices' 100 percent of the time for six measures being tracked and 95 percent of the time for an additional five measures. When you compare that with hospitals across the country, this clearly differentiates Newark from the 'Average' and demonstrates our commitment to providing the best medical and surgical care to our patients."

"Our entire team is focused on the details that go into providing the best care," said Annette Leahy, President of Newark-Wayne Community Hospital and DeMay Living Center. 'Best Care' practices are very defined, with few exceptions, and we are working to provide that care 100 percent of the time for every patient."

"Hospital Compare" was created by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) along with the Hospital Quality Alliance (HQA). The HQA was established to promote reporting on hospital quality of care and is available for patients to compare the quality of care of hospitals within a region and nationally at:  http://hospitalcompare.hhs.gov.
