Hospital Friends Celebrate Its Golden Anniversary at VOW Gala


Mark Clement, President of ViaHealth, and Ginny Ryan from WHAM 13 News offered at toast in celebration of Newark-Wayne Community Hospitalメs 50th Anniversary of providing quality health care to people in Wayne and the surrounding counties. Congressman James T. Walsh and Assemblyman Robert C. Oaks, honorary co-chairs of the event, offered their personal congratulations to friends of the Hospital who were in attendance. In addition, Congressman Walsh presented Annette Leahy, President of ViaHealth of Wayne, with a Congressional Proclamation, noting the anniversary. Congressman Walsh also announced his sponsorship of a $750,000 grant in support of the Hospital and DeMay Living Center. The grant is currently in Congress awaiting the approval process. The annual Gala, which itself raised more than $50,000 for the ViaHealth of Wayne Foundation, was held on November 17th at Carey Lake in Walworth.
This year, the Foundation announced a new award at the Gala ヨ the Luminary Award. The award will honor individuals, families and foundations whose significant support is reflected in the growth and excellence at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital and DeMay Living Center. This award, which was created by local artist, Wayne Williams, was presented to Gary DeMay and Janis DeMay-Connor, son and daughter of Karl and the late Mildred DeMay and to Sarah Gaffin on behalf of James and Margaret Beale and the Stuart Family Foundation.

Newark-Wayne Community Hospital is the only hospital in Wayne County. DeMay Living, 180-bed skilled nursing facility is located on the Newark-Wayne Campus.
