Auxilians and Volunteers Recognized

Newark-Wayne Community Hospital and DeMay Living Center Auxilians and Volunteers were honored for their contributions to ViaHealth of Wayne (VOW) during 2007 at a dinner on Wednesday, April 30th at Elks Lodge 1249 in Newark. The evening's theme, "Give a Hand to Our Volunteers" included fun decorations using decks of cards.
Exalted Ruler Deanna Morell welcomed the 120 Auxilians, volunteers, and guests to a delicious pork dinner that was prepared by Elks Club members. Reverend Carlos Smith, Chaplain for VOW, gave the invocation and benediction. Annette Leahy, President of ViaHealth of Wayne expressed her gratitude to the volunteers and Auxilians for their enormous contribution of hours of service to the Hospital and DeMay Living Center. Magician, Aaron Isaacs delighted and mystified everyone with a repertoire of illusions and tricks that provided the entertainment for the evening.
Carol Holdridge, retiring President of the Hospital Auxiliary, reviewed the accomplishments of 2007 and introduced Mary Palmer, the incoming President of the Auxiliary, as well as officers and members of the Auxiliary's Board of Directors.
Marie Burnham, Volunteer Coordinator for VOW, presented "Milestone Hours of Service" awards. They included: Carrie Norrison who was honored for the highest level of service to ViaHealth of Wayne of 13,000 hours; followed by Gerald Peelen at 11,000; Lois Follette at 8,000 hours; Shirley Lupold at 6,000 hours; Bob Angell and Evelyn Hayslett at 5,000 hours; Walter Hedgepeth, Carol Holdridge and Nancy Murphy at 2,000 hours; and Audrey DeClerck, Chris Goebert, Pat Havrilla, Nancy Roseman and Beverly Williams at 1,000 hours.
Shirley Allen, Shirley Bower, Cheryl DeMeyers, Janice DeWind, Kate Gobeyn, Eileen Godfrey, Patsy Houpt, Norma Kemp, Kenneth Shufelt and Mary Lou Wheat have each given 500 hours of service.
Recognized for giving 100 hours of service were Janice Colatarci, Ron Ganze, Vivian Ganze, Janet Lefebvre, Natalie Lemmon, Holly McDaniels, Patrick McDaniels, Sue Muscolino, Becky Short, Eli Vorhees, Michael Walther and Earl Welker.
Auxilians and volunteers have provided vital services to Newark-Wayne Community Hospital for more that 50 years and are also vitally important to DeMay Living Center.
