DR KARIN DUNNIGAN HONORED FOR EXCELLENCE
Now in its third year, the award is presented each March to honor a physician who dramatically touches the lives of our patients and our community. The award is named in memory of Father George Norton, who was our advisor, comforter and friend. Father Norton was a man for all seasons, and was a man of peace, kindness and compassion. This honor has become a most fitting tribute for the excellence in medicine that is practiced every day at Rochester General Hospital. The qualities that the award recognizes include: patient focus, advocacy, collaboration, compassion, involvement in patient care planning, and relationship building. This year there were 35 nominations received from nurses, social workers, support staff, medical colleagues, patients, teachers, neighbors and family members. As a group, the nominated physicians serve on over 70 volunteer boards and their published papers and presentations number in the hundreds.
We are proud that the 2007 recipient of the Father George Norton Award for Physician Excellence is Karin Dunnigan, M.D., who exemplifies so well the qualities that the award honors. Past award recipients include Robert R. Mayo, M.D.(2005) and jeffrey Dmochowski, M.D.(2006).
