School for Phlebotomy Technicians

The Need for Certification

Rapid advances in the health care delivery system have increased the need for highly skilled and motivated Phlebotomists. The Phlebotomist is responsible for accurately and precisely collecting blood specimens for clinical laboratory analysis by medical technologists. The results of these procedures are used by the physician to monitor, diagnose, and treat the patient. Without specimen integrity, which is ensured by the Phlebotomist, laboratory analyses are meaningless and could be potentially harmful.

The American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) has recognized the need for a certification examination in this vital field. Graduates of the Rochester General Hospital School for Phlebotomy Technicians are eligible to sit for this national certification exam upon successful completion of the Program.

The School for Phlebotomy Technicians - Effective 1/29/10:  This program is currently suspended and we are not accepting applications until further notice.
