Gastroenterology

This service has three full-time faculty members active in patient care and teaching.  The physicians have large out-patient practices where they see a wide variety of gastroenterologic disorders.  A busy in-patient consultation service is also provided.  The endoscopy suite in the hospital’s Ambulatory Procedures Center provides the full range of endoscopic services.

Residents on this service play an integral role in both in- and out-patient evaluation and follow-up.  Residents have the opportunity to observe both routine elective and emergency endoscopic procedures performed by the faculty members.  Formal and informal teaching on the out-patient management of gastrointestinal disorders is emphasized.

On completion of this rotation residents should feel comfortable with the outpatient management of common GI problems.
