The Greater Rochester Area

Known for its friendly demeanor, Rochester boasts a wide variety of high-tech businesses, cultural offerings, professional sports and recreational opportunities.  Home to Eastman Kodak, Bausch & Lomb, and most of Xerox's corporate and manufacturing facilities, Rochester is known for its highly-educated and technologically savvy workforce. 

Eastman Kodak founder George Eastman helped form the philanthropic footprint of the city, as founder of the local United Way, and as a major contributor to the University of Rochester.  The Eastman Theater and the George Eastman House, both located in the city's cultural district, are building top at sunsetwonderful attractions, with the former hosting the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and a number of musical performances each year.  Other major attractions include the Museum and Science Center, the Strasenburgh Planetarium, the Memorial Art Gallery, and the High Falls area, a collection of shops and restaurants situated along the scenic waterfalls of the Genesee River.

Recreational and sporting opportunities abound in Rochester, from sailing, fishing or watersports on Lake Ontario or the Finger Lakes, to taking in a professional sporting event.  Rochester has professional baseball, soccer, ice hockey, lacrosse and basketball franchises, and the NFL's Buffalo Bills, NHL's Buffalo Sabres and Division I Syracuse University sports programs are both about an hour away. 

street lamps at sunsetThe Rochester area is a nationally noted golf lover's paradise, with a host of renowned public and private courses, including the famed Oak Hill Country Club, which - since 1995 -  has hosted the U.S. Open, the PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup. Locust Hill Country Club also hosts the Annual Wegmans Championship, which offers one of the largest purses on the Ladies Professional Golf Tour.

Rochester Area Schools

The greater Rochester area is home to some of the finest schools in the nation.  A recent listing of the Top 100 high schools in the nation by U.S. News and World Report magazine included three Rochester area high schools.
