Congratulations! Nursing is a profession that is both noble and exciting. At Rochester General Hospital, we are dedicated to developing extraordinary and compassionate nurses. Our paid internship program gives you the unique opportunity to apply the theory you are learning in the classroom to direct interaction with patients, medical professionals and peers who share your passion.
Through EXCEL, you will work closely with a Nurse Preceptor who will provide specific learning experiences and clinical situations designed to expand your knowledge and strengthen your patient interaction and decision-making skills.
As you care for patients, you will be able to observe new procedures and tests as they arise during the course of a patient's treatment. You will also enjoy a variety of shadowing experiences and learning opportunities with Rochester General Hospital's top nurse educators and clinicians.
Above all, you will gain valuable knowledge and clinical experience that will help shape and enhance your career in nursing.
How EXCEL Works
- You will work 36-40 hours a week in a single nursing unit
- You will work directly with patients as a patient care technician, under the direction of a dedicated Nurse Preceptor
- The Nurse Manager will coordinate your weekly schedule and responsibilities, meet weekly with you and your Nurse Preceptor and evaluate your performance
To be eligible for EXCEL, you must:
- Be enrolled in an accredited nursing program
- Have completed a Nursing Fundamentals course
Though it is not required, it is preferable to have completed a clinical rotation.
