Hansford Society (Planned Gifts)

The Hansford Society is named for Van Buren and Jane Hansford, who faithfully served Rochester General Hospital with their philanthropic generosity, which totaled nearly $2,000,000. The Hansford Society honors donors who have made long-range plans to provide for the future of Rochester General Hospital with a planned gift of $5,000 or more. Examples of planned gifts are real property, which may allow you to use assets or pooled life income funds, which provide you with income.

Types of Planned Gifts

Securities  - that have appreciated in value, may be donated to the Rochester General Hospital Foundation avoiding capital gains tax and giving you a charitable tax deduction.

Real property - your home, business property or other real estate, can be given for a charitable income tax deduction. Your attorney or tax advisor can tell you how you can avoid certain taxes by giving property directly rather than having your executor sell it in order to make a cash bequest. The donor or spouse may give a personal residence with a right of lifetime tenancy.

Charitable Remainder Trusts - a combination of a lifetime of income and an irrevocable gift to a charity, offers the donor savings on income tax, capital gains tax and estate tax, plus an opportunity to increase one's lifetime income.

Pooled Life Income Funds - provide a donor with income for life and a charity with an irrevocable remainder interest. The donor receives a proportional share of the net annual income earned by the fund, plus tax savings of income, capital gains and estate taxes.

Bequests - through your will, you can leave a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate to Rochester General Hospital Foundation. If you have included RGHF, please let us know. We would much prefer to say "Thank you" to you rather than your executor, and welcome you into the Hansford Society.

Insurance or Retirement Plan Assets - You can name the Rochester General Hospital Foundation as beneficiary, or sign over the life insurance policy.
