National Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Awareness Month
February 28, 2014
During March's National Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Awareness Month, Rochester General Imaging Services is doing its part to educate patients about the risk factors for DVT and to educate physicians about treatments for the condition.
The interventional radiology team at Rochester General performs a minimally invasive treatment, called catheter-directed thrombolysis , a clot busting treatment that rapidly dissolves a blood clot and restores blood flow within the vein to minimize the risk of post-thrombotic syndrome.
Blood clots within the legs are a major problem in the United States, affecting up to 600,000 individuals each year. As many as 50% of individuals with DVT will develop post-thrombotic syndrome.
