First-class care when you need it most

Newark-Wayne Community Hospital is committed to provide superior critical care for injuries and illnesses that you or your family might experience. Our emergency department is open 24-hours-a-day and staffed by physicians and nurses specially trained in delivering immediate acute care.

All of the Emergency Physicians who practice at Newark Wayne Community Hospital are Board Certified in Emergency Medicine.

OUR TEAM

Many people work in the Emergency Department to allow us to provide high quality, fast, “VERY GOOD” care. Each person in our staff fulfills a critical role in the department. While everyone is very keen to help you have a good experience in our department, certain members of staff may be better suited to meet your needs.

DOCTORS

All of our doctors are experienced board certified physicians who are dedicated to providing high quality care. Doctors are responsible for diagnosing and treating any emergency medical conditions you may have. They can also answer questions about your diagnosis and treatment however at times they may be managing multiple critically ill patients at the same time. They can be identified by the letters MD or DO after their name.

NURSES

Our nurses are responsible for ensuring that patients receive the care that has been ordered by our doctors. They do many things including drawing blood, starting IVs, giving medications, ensuring patient safety and reviewing discharge instructions. They can answer questions about your ER care plan. Each nurse can be caring for multiple patients at the same time and can be identified by the letters RN after their name.

PATIENT CARE TECHNICIANS

Our patient care techs function in multiple roles to ensure your comfort in the ER. They help patients undress and mobilize around the department and will conduct basic testing including taking your blood pressure, temperature and pulse. They may place you on a cardiac monitor and take an electrocardiogram. They care for multiple patients at the same time and can be identified by the letters TECH after their name.

MIDLEVEL PROVIDERS

The Emergency Department uses Nurse Practitioners (NP) and Physician Assistants (PA) during busy times to more rapidly see our less acute (sick) patients. Each NP or PA is under the supervision of the attending emergency physician. They may also independently manage minor complaints allowing our doctors to dedicate more time to managing our critically ill patients. NP and PAs can be identified by NP or PA-C after their names.
