24-Hour Diagnostic Imaging Services
Newark-Wayne Community Hospital provides 24-hour diagnostic imaging services. Our services include x-ray, ultrasonography, mammography, CT and bone density scanning. We also offer nuclear imaging and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
The Diagnostic Imaging Department is conveniently located on the west end of the hospital on the first floor. Normal hours for scheduled appointments are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
For information about Diagnostic Imaging services or to schedule an appointment, please call (315) 332-2241.
Ultrasound is a diagnostic tool that uses high-frequency sound waves to look inside the body. A hand-held transducer is moved over your body, emitting sound waves which the human ear cannot detect, reading the echoes of those sounds that bounce off internal organs, then reconstructing an image on a video monitor. These images are then generated on film for the Radiologist to make a diagnosis. In addition to ultrasound, our computed cardiovascular system generates images of unsurpassed resolution and critical detail.
Nuclear imaging uses small amounts of radiation and technologically advanced cameras to diagnose many diseases and disorders including heart disease, thyroid disease, tumors, and changes in bone and organ function. This early detection capability makes diagnosis and treatment of disease more effective.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to help physicians explore the inner workings of your body, detecting and defining the differences between health and diseased tissue.
Bone Density Scanningis a diagnostic tool that is used to determine osteoporosis. The scan is a painless procedure that measures how much calcium is present in bone. Osteoporosis affects both men and women after age 50.
