Youth Apprenticeship Program

Since 1989, The Youth Apprenticeship Program (YAP), through Rochester General Hospital has given students from the Rochester City School District (RCSD) a two-year comprehensive paid internship. Schools currently participating with the program include:

  • Benjamin Franklin High School
  • East High School
  • Edison High School
  • John Marshall High School
  • Monroe High School
  • Freddie Thomas High School
  • Wilson Magnet High School
  • Urban Suburban Program

Begin a Career in Healthcare

The Youth Apprenticeship Program and Rochester General Health System gives city school students the chance to succeed and achieve a career in health care.  Each participant earns not just his/her high school diploma, but a Certificate of Completion attesting to the fact that the student has had youth employment competency training, and has the skills necessary to be a conscientious and productive employee.

This training, provided by both the school and the program makes students eligible for entry level positions such as:

  • Patient Care Technician
  • Pediatric Technician
  • Material Records Assistant
  • Respiratory Care Aide
  • Transporter and Lab Assistant

Support the Youth Apprenticeship Program

For the last 5 years 100% of the students who complete the Youth Apprenticeship program graduate High School and have been accepted into college.

Between 85%-95% of the students who graduate from the Youth Apprenticeship Program go on to pursue careers in health care.

  • Pharmacist
  • Respiratory Therapist
  • Registered Nurses
  • Nurse Practitioners
  • Medical Doctors
  • Health Care Administrators
