Pharmacy Residency Program

Rochester General Hospital Department of Pharmacy PGY-1 Residency Program

The Rochester General Hospital Department of Pharmacy PGY1 Residency program is the newest addition to Rochester General’s longstanding residency programs in Medicine, OB/GYN, Radiology, and Dentistry. Our program prepares confident, independent pharmacist practitioners who demonstrate a commitment to a patient-centered practice in an acute care setting. The program assists these individuals in developing such fundamental skills as life-long learning, self-assessment, and communication, so that they may emerge from the program as leaders in their profession.

RGH Pharmacy residents learn in a setting that embraces teamwork – both within the department and throughout the hospital. In our 12-month, full-time program, residents receive training in essential elements that allow them to become key members of a comprehensive health care team. These elements include:

  • Managing and improving the medication-use process
  • Providing evidence-based, patient-centered medication therapy management with interdisciplinary teams
  • Exercising leadership and practice management skills
  • Demonstrating project management skills
  • Providing medication and practice-related education and training
  • Utilizing medical informatics
