Loan Repayment Programs

Loan repayment programs are available to Physicians affiliated with Rochester General Health System depending on your specialty and practice location.  Below is a summary of each of program and a link to their Web site for the most up-to-date information on that loan program:

Adult Primary Care Physicians

Excellus Blue Cross/Blue Shield Loan Forgiveness Program - Starting in 2012, approximately $600,000 dollars per year for the next four years will be made available through local institutions to provide loan relief to primary care doctors in return for a minimum of four years of service in the Rochester area.  Rochester General Hospital has been allotted $120,000 of these funds per year to provide loan forgiveness assistance to one or more of its primary care Physicians who meet the requirements of the program.   

Primary Care Physicians & Physicians in underserved specialties

Doctors Across New York (DANY) - There are two programs under DANY (Loan Repayment and Practice Support).  Both programs can be used for loan repayment, but the amount of the awards and the service obligations are different depending on the program you choose.    

Primary Care and Mental Health Physicians & other clinical professionals

National Health Service Corps - This program provides assistance for qualifying student loans tax free, to primary care medical, dental and mental health clinicians in exchange for two, four, or five years of service at an approved site in a Health Professional Shortage Area.  In order to qualify for this award, the site you work at needs to be an approved NHSC site.  For complete information including a list of approved sites visit the link above.            

Primary Care, Emergency Medicine, & Mental Health Physicians

Regents Physician Loan Forgiveness - This program is for physicians who agree to practice primary care medicine in an area of New York State designated by the Board of Regents as having a shortage of physicians.
