Community School Loan Forgiveness Program
Funds will be administered through programs at Highland Hospital, Strong Memorial, Unity Hospital, Rochester General Hospital, and the recently formed Rochester Integrated Health Network. The network includes community health centers serving poor and low-income residents of Rochester including Anthony Jordan Health Center, Westside Health Center, Rochester Primary Care Network, Highland Family Medicine, and Rochester area hospitals. Physicians do not need to be employed by a hospital system or RIHN to be eligible to apply.
The program will be financed through a nominal surcharge on Excellus BlueCross BlueShield commercial member inpatient claims at the four hospitals with the backing of the Rochester Business Alliance. Excellus BCBS will pay the hospitals directly.
Rochester General Hospital will use funds to support at least one candidate per year for four years to subsidize loan obligations. The goal is to assure a strong foundation for the future of primary care in the region. Applications are open to Internal Medicine and Family Medicine candidates who are new to the practice of primary care in the Rochester region.
