Hill Haven: New Look, New Mission
Hill Haven, an RGHS affiliate and a respected member of Rochester’s senior-care community, is undergoing changes that anticipate evolving patient needs and post-reform healthcare.
September saw the unveiling of a renovated rehabilitation unit, with state-of-the-art equipment and refurbished patient surroundings. A longer-term project concludes in late 2013 with the renovation of other Hill Haven areas. These changes accompany Hill Haven’s shift from a predominantly residential style nursing home to a facility providing three types of care:
- Post-Acute – Offering expert short-term rehabilitation services to patients, following complex medical events including stroke and joint replacement surgery.
- Transitional – Patients staying between several weeks and several months receive high-quality post-hospital clinical care while they adjust to the shift from hospital to home.
- Complex Long-Term – For patients with ongoing medical needs requiring round-the-clock support, Hill Haven will remain available as a clinically high-quality “home away from home.”
“Hill Haven will always be a home for seniors with special needs, but our expert rehab team is equally skilled at helping patients of all ages,” said Kathy McGuire, RGHS Senior Vice President for Senior Services and Behavioral Health. “These changes allow the facility to serve the entire community, while Independent Living for Seniors does even more for our older patient populations.”
