Financial Aid Application Procedure 2014-2015

  • IGHSPN students are eligible to apply for Federal Pell Grants, Federal Direct student and parent loans, and New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) Grants.
  • Begin the financial aid application process any time after 1/1/14 by completing the 2014-2015 FREE Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is your application for ALL of the financial aid programs noted above. When prompted to do so in the income section of the FAFSA, use the "IRS Data Retrieval Tool" to have the IRS import your (and your parent's, if applicable) income information from your tax return into your FAFSA so you won't need to do it by hand.  Our federal school code is 015201, listed as "Rochester General Hospital."
  • IMMEDIATELY after completing the FAFSA, use the link on the confirmation page to go to the NYS HESC website to complete your TAP application.
  • If you live or work in Monroe County, you may be eligible for additional grant funding through the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA), administered by an agency called Rochester Works. Call them NOW at 585-258-3500 to ask how to qualify.  The maximum grant is $5000.00.  Apply early because funds are limited and the application deadline for IGH students for fall 2014 is June 24, 2014.  If you do not live or work in Monroe County, call or email Toni Greenlee (see below) for contact information for your county.
  • If you are considering borrowing a Federal Direct student or parent loan, you will need to complete (1) a Master Promissory Note if you have not already completed one to borrow here or at any other school, and (2) Entrance Counseling specifically for Rochester General Hospital.  Both are done at www.studentloans.gov.
  • If you currently have any Federal Stafford Student Loans in default (don't confuse with deferment) you are not eligible for ANY federal or NYS financial aid.  However, you will likely be able to originate a Federal Consolidation Loan at www.studentloans.gov to pay off all of your Stafford loans, including any in default, and become eligible again for financial aid.  Do this NOW because it takes 30-90 days to complete the process.
  • All accepted students will be required to meet individually with Toni Greenlee, the IGHSPN Financial Advisor, between April and July to finalize financial aid applications and/or payment arrangements.  You will leave the meeting with a copy of your Student Account Record detailing the costs of the program, the actual (if available) or estimated financial aid you are eligible for, and the amount and due date of any payment you may owe to the school. A variety of appointment dates and times are available so that, if you want, you can have this information before your acceptance deposit is due.
  • The four-page IGHSPN Financial Aid Guide 2014-15 contains detailed information about the financial aid programs noted above, as well as federal, NYS, and IGHSPN financial aid policies and procedures.  Also review IGHSPN Financial Aid At-A-Glance, which gives a quick overview of the aid programs.
