Bariatric Surgery

If you haven't been successful alone.

bariatric surgery coupleIf you’ve tried a healthy diet and exercise and your health is still at risk from being overweight, our team of bariatric surgeons and medical professionals can help.

The Rochester General Bariatric Surgery Center has been named a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery. In consultation with you and your primary care physician, we can choose between bariatric (weight loss) procedures that work in one of two ways—limiting the amount of food you can consume or changing the way your food is digested.

In conjunction with a healthy diet and a more active lifestyle, both have proven to be successful in helping patients lose weight.

Am I a candidate?

Bariatric surgery is usually a treatment option for adults with severe obesity. Body mass index (BMI), a measurement of height in relation to weight, is used to measure obesity. According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), severe obesity is a BMI >40 or a BMI >35 for people who are less overweight but have diabetes, heart disease or sleep apnea.

Use the BMI calculator to determine if you could be a candidate for bariatric surgery, and learn about other qualifying factors on our Am I a Candidate? page.

We are a Comprehensive Bariatric Center  by American College Of Surgeons and American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Learn more...
