Holter Monitoring

A Holter monitor is a type of portable heart monitor that keeps a record of your heart’s rhythm (an EKG or ECG) over a 24 hour period of time. Since it can be worn during your regular daily activities, it helps your doctor compare your symptoms including dizziness and palpitations (a sensation of fast or irregular heart rhythm) with your activity.

Overall, the purpose of Holter monitoring is to look for evidence of passing cardiac problems - that is, problems that come and go, and that are not visible when a standard ECG or EKG is performed.
