World-Class Medical Oncology Care in Rochester
Rochester General Hospital's Lipson Cancer Center has a long tradition in medical oncology dating back to the first use of chemotherapy treatments in the 1960s. Today, the center treats over 1,000 patients each month. Our world-class team of medical oncologists, nurse practitioners and support staff provides a wide range of expertise for a varying spectrum of cancers. Equally as important as the leading-edge cancer treatment offered in the Medical Oncology unit is our commitment to patient-centered care. Our oncologists offer a holistic approach to cancer care, spending one-on-one time with each of our patients in order to address not only their medical concerns but also their emotional and psychosocial needs.
In addition to providing world-class cancer treatment, our physicians are active participants in cancer clinical research as members of the Cancer and Leukemia Group B and participate in in-house and pharmaceutical-sponsored clinical trials. All Lipson Cancer Center physicians have adjunct faculty appointments at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Collaboration with this National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated, comprehensive cancer center has resulted in access to cutting-edge technology and research for our cancer patients.
The Medical Oncology Unit includes 25 state-of-the-art treatment stations for infusion and chemotherapy and offers an on-site phlebotomy draw-station to facilitate rapid turnaround of laboratory tests. An efficient scheduling system allows blood tests, doctor visits and chemotherapy treatments to be accurately and conveniently coordinated for our patients. A full-time social worker is available to provide supportive services, links to support groups and help with insurance and reimbursement issues.
