Older Adult Outpatient Services
The Older Adult program provides services to persons aged 60 years or older who are experiencing problems from a mental illness and/or age related concerns. These outpatient services include assessment and treatment consultation services at skilled nursing facilities and Independent Living for Seniors. Most services are provided at the Hart Building, 490 East Ridge Road.
Initial Evaluation
Patients seen for an initial evaluation are assessed by a Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner or Social Worker in collaboration with a psychiatrist. The information obtained at this visit helps determine which treatment/service is most appropriate for the patient.
Individual Therapy
Talk therapy gives the patient an opportunity to voice concerns, problem-solve or learn new and effective coping skills in a one-to-one meeting with a therapist. Often talk therapy focuses on helping patients cope with mental, physical, emotional and social changes related to aging.
Medication Support Services
This service is for patients who receive medications as their primary mode of mental health treatment. Focus is on the patient's response to the medications and current level of overall functioning. Additional attention is paid to the patient's age, physical health and support system which can impact his/her mental health.
Group Therapy
Group therapy provides age appropriate psychosocial and therapeutic interventions for the older adult and serves as a support for patients experiencing similar problems.
Collateral Visits
Many older adult patients are seen with his/her family who can be an additional resource for information about the patient. Support and educational information are also provided to the family so they can be helpful to the patient as he/she returns to his/her highest level of functioning.
