Our Mission & Vision
Volunteer Services supports patients and their families by "personalizing, humanizing, and demystifying hospitalization" (Patient-Centered Care Improvement Guide, Susan Frampton, PhD et al. Derby, CT and Camden, ME: Planetree, Inc. and Picker Institute, Inc., 2008).
A smile, calming voice and presence, and the ability to focus on one patient or family at a time are just some of the ways that hospital volunteers support the hospital's mission of improving people's health by offering the highest quality care and service with compassion.
Rochester General volunteers will do such worthwhile work that makes a difference that:
- Patients and family members overwhelm the hospital with the positive things that volunteers have done to make their experience an exceptional, healing, and positively memorable one in every way;
- Volunteers, energized and excited by the difference they make, can't help but spread the word to others so that there is a waiting list to volunteer at Rochester General; and,
- Hospital administration and staff -- when asked "How many people work at Rochester General" -- respond by saying, "More than 5,000, including our volunteers."
