Your Arrival

On the day of your admission, after parking in the garage off of Portland Avenue or having your vehicle valet parked at our main entrance, come to the Hospital’s Admitting Office, located on the main concourse, off the lobby on the first floor. Day Of Surgery Admission (DOSA) patients should go the Patient Access Center located at the end of the Hospital's Polisseni Pavilion Main Lobby to check in.  If you use a wheelchair, or if you will need a wheelchair when you arrive at the Hospital, please come directly to the front entrance of the Hospital. Wheelchairs are available in the main lobby.

At the Admitting Office or Patient Access Center you will receive an identification wristband with your name, hospital number and physician’s name. From there, you will be directed to your nursing unit. Shortly after you reach the nursing unit, a nurse will conduct an admission interview, familiarize you with your room, and ask you if you have any questions regarding your hospitalization and/or your patient rights.

If your visit is not planned and you are admitted to the Hospital through the Emergency Department, you or a family member will be contacted by the Admitting Office to complete admission forms. You will be transferred from the Emergency Department to your nursing unit as soon as possible.

Rochester General's campus is large and often confusing if you haven't been here before. Some quick tips for getting around:

  • Information and Guest Services desks are located on the ground floor level off the Portland Avenue parking garage on the first floor level near the Surgical Family Lounge.  Team members are present from 5:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekends to assist you with questions and directions.
  • Green & Red tabs are located on hallway ceilings for ease in finding Rochester General's color-coded elevators and are useful providing directions to specific units/departments in the hospital.
