Parking Garages

For self parking options, Rochester General Hospital offers two parking garages: Portland Avenue and Carter Street. 

Portland Avenue Parking Garage

The Portland Avenue Garage is the primary parking area for the Parnall Building and the main Hospital Building.  Handicapped parking is available on levels G – 3 adjacent to the elevators.  Please be advised that the maximum height clearance of the Portland Avenue Garage is 6’9”, oversize vehicles should park in the Carter Street Garage.

Carter Street Parking Garage

The Carter Street Garage is connected to the General Hospital Medical Building via an enclosed walkway.  The Carter Street Garage is a pay on foot parking facility.  Upon entering the parking garage, please take the ticket you received from the entrance ticket spitter with you into the building.  Prior to exiting please proceed to the Automatic Pay Station located in the 1st floor elevator lobby to remit payment.  Payment may also be made at the parking office located on the 1st floor of the garage Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm.  Upon completion of payment proceed to any of the exits marked Pre-Paid and insert the validated ticket into the exit verifier for exit.  Payment may also be made with a credit card at any exit point simply, insert your MasterCard or Visa after inserting your entrance ticket.  Each entrance and exit lane as well as the pay station is equipped with an intercom should you need assistance.

MasterCard and Visa are now accepted at both garages

24-Hour Pass

A 24 hour pass may be purchased for $6.00 from the Parking Attendant in the Carter Street Office or Portland Avenue Garage.  The pass will allow entrance and exit for 24 hours from the time of original entry.

Weekly Passes

A seven day pass may be purchased for a cost of $31.50 for a savings of $10.50.  The patron may use this pass for in and out privileges through midnight of the date of expiration.  Weekly passes may be purchased at the Cashier’s office located on the first floor of the hospital, the Parking Office located on the 1st floor of the Carter Street Garage or at the Portland Avenue Garage exit booths.  The Cashiers office is open Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:00pm.

Reduced Validation Stickers

Patrons may purchase a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 10 validation stickers for a cost of $3.50 each.  These validation stickers can be used for one exit up to $6.00 only.  Please affix the validation sticker to your entrance ticket and present the ticket to the booth attendant at the Portland Avenue Garage or the cashier inside the Parking Office in the Carter Street Garage.  The Automatic Pay Station is not capable of reading the sticker.


Long-term Passes


Long term passes are available to patrons who are visiting a patient who has been admitted for 7 days or greater. These passes allow in and out privileges through midnight of the date of expiration. The cost of the pass is $2.75 per day. In the event the patient is admitted greater than 30 days a pass is available for $1.00 per day. Please stop by the Parking Office on the 1st floor of the Carter Street Parking Garage Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm to purchase these passes.

Safety and Security Information

  • Please secure your vehicle at all times.  Do not leave valuables such as cell phones, purses or packages in plain view.
  • Report all suspicious security situations to our 24 hour number (585) 922-4300.  Call 24300 from any in-house phone.
  • Emergency telephones have been posted at various locations on the hospital campus for your use.  These phones can be identified by an emergency blue light above the telephone.
  • Security escorts are available by calling (585) 922-4300 or using a blue light phone.
  • Wheelchair assistance is available by picking up any blue light phone or intercom located at the hospital entrances.
  • RGH is a smoke free facility.  Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the Rochester General Hospital campus.
