Baker-Cederberg Museum and Archives

Baker-Cederberg at a Glance

For over half a century, the Baker-Cederberg Museum and
Archives has served as the repository of Rochester General's rich heritage.  Its collections include minute books of Rochester General's various boards from 1847 to present, scrapbooks, uniforms, memorabilia, and a 22,000-image photo collection.  (The Archives collection reflects the hospital's 150-year growth from the first board meeting to the present.)

The Museum and Archives also houses several special collections, including:

  • Rochester General Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Collection, 1880-1964
  • Base Hospital 19 (World War I), 1917-19
  • 19th General Hospital (World War II), 1942-45
  • Marion B. Baker Collection of period dioramas, 1930-50

The Baker-Cederberg Museum and Archives is a repository for several related collections:

The Baker-Cederberg Archives was established in 1947 for the hospital's centennial, and was named in honor of Marion Bradley Baker and George Cederberg, who saw the value of Preserving Rochester General's past.

Reflecting a broader scope, The Baker-Cederberg Archives became The Baker-Cederberg Museum and Archives in 1984.   The Museum and Archives offers 6,000 square feet of climate-controlled space which meets professional archival preservation standards.  Its collections are managed by a professional curator and archivist, aided by trained volunteers.

The Baker-Cederberg Museum and Archives enjoys local and national recognition of its efforts.  It received the New York State Archives and Records Administration's Annual Archives Week Award in 1996, and in 1994 received the Award of Merit from the Western New York Association of Historical Agencies.   The Archives also received a Certificate of Commendation from the American Association for State and Local History.
