Rochester Medical Museum & Archives
The Rochester Medical Museum and Archive is located at 1441 East Avenue at the Rochester Academy of Medicine Our collections include The Baker-Cederberg Museum and Archives of the Rochester General Hospital, The Genesee Hospital, Myers Community Hospital, Behavioral Health (Rochester Mental Health Center) Collection plus several tenant collections including: The New York State and Genesee Dietetic Associations and the Society for Total Emergency Programs (STEP) in one location. This consortium of Archives represent the vast array of Rochester’s Healthcare -- some nineteen collections in all. You enter the museum from the second floor evevator to the gallery. This gallery was designed with temporary exhibits: photos, art and historical vignettes in mind.
The gallery will house semi permanent exhibits, traveling exhibits and a meeting/education space. We hope to host several commercial exhibits as others generated by our Visual Communications Department as well as educational programs and workshops for our membership, the historical community, and local elementary school classes. Subjects will include preservation of family heirlooms, archives and photos.
The new storage area consists of a large secured, climate controlled area, special collections areas, costume storage, and a research library -- about 5,000 square feet and provides us with a state of the art facility in which to preserve our local medical history.
